Hello,
Women in Canada: First Nations, Métis and Inuit Women
The chapter entitled “First Nations, Métis and Inuit Women” is now available in Women in Canada: A Gender-based Statistical Report, 2010-2011. It explores the diverse circumstances and experiences of Aboriginal women in Canada. Overall, it highlights their demographic characteristics, families, housing, language, employment, income, education, justice and health. Where possible, data on First Nations, Métis and Inuit women are compared with those of their male counterparts and with non-Aboriginal women.

Announcing running for office of Provincial Vice President

July 7, 2011

Hello today is a good day.

You’ve probably heard the saying, ‘Never say never.’  That is because one does not know the future and a change of heart or mind is possible.  Situations can change in the blink of an eye.  And that is what happened to me.  Situations changed.  I changed my mind.  Most of you are aware that September 6, 2011 is Election Day for the Métis Nation of Alberta Association.   Many people have repeatedly encouraged me to run again.  I’ve decided to do that.  But not for the position many would think.  I am running for the office of Provincial Vice President.

Once again I need support for the nomination.  The names of 150 Métis members are required to sign the nomination form.  Signing the form does not necessarily mean you support me, although I hope you will.  Signing the form can simply indicate that you support my democratic right to run for office.  You can even sign for all the candidates running for the same office.  The only requirement is that you are registered as a member.  Please call or email me if you are willing to sign my nomination form.

If you would like to be more active and help me collect names for the nomination, I’ve posted the forms for your convenience.  As well, I would appreciate support in other areas of the campaign.

I will be producing a brochure and will soon announce my platform.  Please visit my blog for information I have already posted.  http://pasulasharonletendre.blogspot.com.  I’ve also started a group on Face book, Métis Spirit Revived where I hope to read your vision for the Métis Nation.

Many of you either know me or know of me.  I submitted at least one article in every Otipemisiwak in the last two years in an effort to keep you informed of interesting and important activities I have done in my capacity as Vice President of Métis Regional Council IV.  They should be archived on the website, http://www.albertametis.com/.

Thank you for your consideration.  I conclude with the thought of the day for July 11, 2011.

*“So, my brothers and sisters, we must not be ruled by our sinful selves or live the way our sinful selves want.  If you use your lives to do the wrong things your sinful selves want, you will die spiritually.  But if you use the Spirit’s help to stop doing the wrong things you do with your body, you will have true life.”  I choose life!

*The devotional for today was Romans 8:12-25.  The above was verses 12, 13.  Thanks for listening.

Métis Spirit Revived - new group started in Facebook - to encourage and inspire.

Group:   Métis Spirit Revived
Hello,

Someone asked me the other day ‘What is your vision for the Métis, How would things look if you could change things?’
I said, ‘I would like to see the Métis Nation healed.  That means we would all be working together, no Métis crabs. *

The vision I have is that every Métis person would take responsibility for their healing, stop blaming others including God, and work towards walking the path they were destined for – wellness, prosperity, and peace with the Creator and others.

After this discussion I felt compelled to start a group that is positive, a group that would publicly begin to create a positive synergy for the Métis, and initiate a healing journey for some that could also be used as a prayer foundation.  Neuroscientists have proved that every thought releases chemicals or neurotransmitters from the brain and are responsible for triggering emotions.  Every thought and emotion releases different types of chemicals.  If the emotions are toxic, the chemicals ** “create conditions for a host of health problems that will manifest in both the body and the mind  Emotions that regularly release a torrent of destructive chemicals that will be the most damaging over time are:  unforgiveness, anger, rage, resentment, depression, worry, anxiety, frustration, fear, excessive grief and guilt.”  If the emotions are positive, the chemicals released cause health; intellect flourishes and with it mental and physical health.”

Simply stated, “Negative reinforcement releases negative chemicals.  Positive reinforcement releases positive chemicals.”

So this is obviously good for the individual and done corporately, can have a huge impact on a nation.  So I would like to hear your vision for the Métis Nation.  Thanks for listening. -  I am still learning how to use this blog and yu may be as well.  If you can't make a comment here I am on Facebook or spasula@softhome.net

*(story about the crabs in the bucket – used for many things goes something like this; a person with a bucket is walking down the beach.  Another person walks by and asks ‘What’s in the bucket?’ The one carrying it says, ‘Métis crabs only, all the others got away.’ The other person says, ‘Why only Métis and no other kind?’  The response is ‘Every time a Métis crab tries to crawl up and get out, another Métis crab pulls it back down and they all stay trapped in the bucket.)’

83rd Annual Assembly, Metis Nation of Alberta; Only 4 days left to send in your Special or Extraordinary resolutions

Metis Morning additional notes

I forgot to mention that another reason I volunteered to present was because the school had no honorarium for the presenter.  Many people I know are professionals who do this kind of thing as their livilhood so knowing this would be a 'volunteer' gig, I did not contact anyone.
My thank you from the school, besides heartfelt gratitude, was the hand made card from the students which I photographed, plus two Tim Horton's card's at 5.00 each.  It was a nice gesture.
